If you've read Looking for Gatsby, you know that Faye's side of the Sunset Boulevard debacle with Andrew Lloyd Webber goes unmentioned. There's a legal statement reprinted in the book, and just some subtle mentions of how much stress she was under during that time. But I've read multiple reports that an early version of her manuscript included an entire chapter where she spills the beans on Sunset Boulevard but apparently the lawyers decided it could not be included. Did that missing chapter from the manuscript ever leak online by any chance? Obviously, I'd love to read that. This is an excerpt from a July 1995 NY Daily News article about her autobiography that seems to have access to the original manuscript. This is the very brief summary (part of a series of bullet points) of what they say Faye writes in the Sunset Boulevard section: Andrew Lloyd Webber is "very fey" with a "bare bump of a chin that almost disappears into his neck." Despite their settlement, she still says he lied about closing L.A.'s "Sunset Boulevard" because her voice wasn't good enough.

Wow! Didn't notice that. You're right, she was probably told by her lawyers to drop this chapter. Would love to read it, but I don't think it will ever made available unfortunately. The Norma Desmond part would have been just so perfect for her. Damn that ALW!

I just came across a great, very lengthy June 1994 interview with Faye from the L.A. Times called NORMA DEAREST. I had never read this, and it was a good one. This was done when she was preparing Sunset Boulevard (shortly before her firing and the Lloyd-Webber drama) and she speaks quite a bit about her excitement about this project. This is actually the only time I've read or heard Faye comment on this, other than her impromptu press conference years ago. She also discusses this project in comparison to playing Joan Crawford, another topic she rarely broaches. articles.latimes.com/1994-06-05/entertainment/ca-664_1_norma-desmond

This isn't about Sunset Blvd., but it's Master Class Tour interview she did for a Los Angeles reporter in 1997 that made me love her even more than before. Great article. Playing the Diva
